Project Description

The modernization of the Salvation Army Women & Children’s Center in Orlando was a comprehensive project by McCree using their in-house design-build approach. The primary goal was to rejuvenate the aging facility, which had not been updated in decades. The existing floor plan was overhauled to meet current code requirements, including refurbishing the elevator shaft and adding all new ADA features. Significant upgrades were made to the HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems, equipping the facility with modern infrastructure.

Renovations included new finishes throughout the center, such as updated flooring, millwork, painting, new drywall, windows, doors, and a new roof. A new awning was installed to enhance the building’s exterior appeal. Security enhancements and site upgrades were also made, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for residents. These extensive renovations were funded by a grant from the City of Orlando and contributions from many individual donors. The updated facility now serves as a vital resource for the community, specifically aiding homeless women and children with a capacity of 66 people, including family rooms, bunk rooms, a dining area with a commercial kitchen, a reception area, a playground, and offices.
